The figures won’t lie – a lot of us have been experiencing the wrath of periodontal disease.  What makes it worse is that most of us are not really aware of it.  Why is this so?  In the earliest stages of this dental health problem, we can say that this case is a secretive type.  It is secretive in such a way that you would never know that you have one unless it becomes really bad.  Hence, it is important to take note of the various symptoms that can indicate if a person is suffering from periodontitis or not.

Taking note of the various symptoms and indicators of this disease is significant so that we would be able to identify the most effective periodontitis treatment.  Basically, there are three main symptoms that you should look out for to identify if periodontal disease is already taking place.  The first one is the bleeding of the gums.  Usually, this happens when the person brushes his or her teeth.  When gums start to bleed, it means that they have weakened and became very sensitive that the smallest of contact translates to instant bleeding.

Another important indicator of periodontal disease which can be useful in understanding how to treat periodontitis would be the swelling of the gums.  Swelling is easier detected since it tends to be on a more physical layer most especially when compared to other indicators like pain.  When swelling occurs, this means that bacterial buildup inside your mouth has become rampant to a point that inflammation starts to spread.  Apart from the obvious swelling, gum discoloration is another sign of periodontitis.  Health gums are signified by their pinkish hue.  Unhealthy gums possess a grayish or even brownish tone, indicating bacterial buildup.  Try to observe your gums once in a while and see if they are still healthy through their colors.

The last important indicator for periodontal disease is the condition that is referred to as halitosis.  In simpler terms, bad breath can literally mean that you are suffering from the said condition.  When this happens, your gums have probably died out and decayed due to too much infestation.  Those decayed gums are represented by the emergence of halitosis.  Sometimes, bad breath is not just because we ate something that tastes and smells so strong, it could also tell us that our oral health is in great danger.

Once you encounter any of those symptoms, there is no other option but to look into it right away.  As mentioned earlier, periodontal disease at its earliest levels is too difficult to track hence it pays a lot to be a few steps behind.  These symptoms can help you figure out if the spread of the disease has widened and if it should be treated with further medication or procedures.
