The foam center of a spa cover can be damaged or cracked by excessive weight of objects which is placed on top of it for a long time. It is very crucial to remember that your spa covers are not meant to carry heavy objects and should not be used as a table. Therefore, to prevent your spa cover from failing, refrain from placing any object on top of it.

Never allow people to sit and stand on you spa cover as well as do not allow children and pets on top of it. Also, be reminded to keep from placing loads on your spa cover. A spa cover is never meant to withstand this much weight and may lead to cracking, dents, or pooling of water on your cover. Keep all sharp objects or tools away from the cover as these cause tears and may rip the jacket. This will allow moisture and water to get further under the jacket, causing mold and mildew growth. This will definitely cause damage to your spa cover and it is unsightly to have rips in your cover.

The warranty includes only defects due to manufacturing process.  Manufacturers such as for Sundance spa covers do not include warranty due to damage caused by misuse and negligence.  Damage due to sharp objects and unwanted materials that should not be in contact with the cover is also excluded in the warranty.

Water intrusion is also a sign of damage on your spa cover. All cores that are inside a spa cover should be encased in a clear plastic lining. The purpose of this is to keep water out of the cover’s insulation area. One sign of damage is if you find water getting in between the clear plastic lining and the core. Once you notice this, you should immediately locate the holes in the clear plastic lining and drain out any excess water from it. After doing so, allow it to dry then reseal any holes you see. When holes are not sealed in an early stage, it gets worse and eventually totally damages the cover. For this, you will need to buy Sundance replacement covers.

The spa cover straps and latches are also an important part. This is designed for the sole purpose of keeping your spa cover sealed and in place on top of the hot tub. Prevent damage to these by ensuring that all latches and locks are released before trying to open the cover.
